MARC JACOB’S CHER
By Naomi Barling

After attending the Met Ball with Marc Jacobs earlier this month, Cher has now been revealed as the star of his Fall-Winter15 campaign shot by David Sims.

She arrived hand in hand with Jacobs at The Met wearing a floor-length black gown from his dark, moody fall 2015 collection, which was initially inspired by Diana Vreeland’s apartment in her later years.

There’s been no shortage of iconic celebrity women in fashion campaigns over the last year, from Joan Didion’s Céline ads to Joni Mitchell posing for Saint Laurent and now thanks to Katie Grand, the editor of Love magazine who creative directs the campaigns for Marc Jacobs 69 year old actress and singer Cher is taking over!

Katie Grand was born April 1971 and is a British stylist and fashion journalist. Grand is the founding editor-in-chief of Love, a bi-annual publication she launched in February 2009 with Condé Nast International. She is also a highly regarded stylist and creative consultant, and a key collaborator of Marc Jacobs, with whom she has worked for the last 11 years. Grand is the creative director of the women’s wear, menswear and beauty campaigns for Marc Jacobs.

David Sims has shot images for magazines such as i-D, The Face Vogue and Arena Homme Plus. He is also no stranger to advertising, creating images for brands such as Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Calvin Klein, Jil Sander, Yohji Yamamoto and now Marc Jacobs.

Cher has been a fashion industry icon since the ’60s, so it’s not surprising that she looks as amazing as ever in these portraits shot by David Sims. It is still now confirmed if Cher stars in the campaign solo or if this is just the first in a series of images with different models, but one thing is certain: other designers are really going to have to pull out all the stops to top this one.

Cher wears a full-length brown pleated skirt, with lace stripes, and a cropped jacket with jewel embellishments and black gloves in the campaign shot. She is seated in front of a hot red backdrop with her iconic long black hair curled.
